Mega Sceptile is a fast, specially offensive Grass/Dragon with Lightning Rod turning Electric moves into a free SpA boost. Dragon coverage is a big upgrade over pure Grass, but the typing stacks weaknesses to Ice, Fairy, and Dragon, and priority moves bypass its speed edge — it needs team support to function in singles.
Playstyle:After Mega Evolution, run Dragon-type attacks (Dragon Pulse / Draco Meteor) plus Leaf Storm or Giga Drain for Water/Ground targets. Lightning Rod lets it absorb an Electric move for a free +1 SpA before cleaning up. Physical defense is paper-thin, so positioning and Substitute help. Its Speed sits in the 145 range post-Mega, outspeeding nearly all non-boosted opponents.
In doubles, Mega Sceptile's main niche is Lightning Rod: absorbing Electric moves to protect partners like Gyarados or rain sweepers while powering itself up. Grass/Dragon coverage pairs well with weather cores, but the fast doubles pace and prevalence of Fairy and Ice moves make its frailty a real liability without careful team construction.
Playstyle:Pair with a physical sweeper that fears Electric moves — Mega Gyarados is the ideal partner. Sceptile sits in the Lightning Rod slot, absorbs Thunderbolts, then applies offensive pressure with spread Grass or Dragon moves. Its Speed lets it attack before most threats, but swap it out the moment a Fairy or Ice-type appears on the field.
