What it does
Bullet Seed is a Grass-type physical move that hits 2-5 times per use. Without any ability interaction, the hit count is random: 2 or 3 hits at 3/8 probability each, 4 or 5 hits at 1/8 each. Average of 3 hits per use. Each hit calculates damage independently.
On Toucannon, none of that randomness matters. Its ability Skill Link forces all multi-hit moves to always land the maximum number of hits. Bullet Seed with Skill Link always hits exactly 5 times, every time. That changes the move entirely.
Multi-hit attacks also break Sturdy and Focus Sash in one use. The first hit drops the target to 1 HP, the remaining hits bypass the survival guarantee and finish the job.
Grass-type coverage hits Water, Rock, and Ground types for super-effective damage — all of which see regular use in Champions format.
Who runs it
Toucannon (55%) is the sole user here. Skill Link is the reason — 5 guaranteed hits turns Bullet Seed into serious output, not a luck-dependent coverage pick. Combined with Beak Blast, Toucannon has Fire and Grass coverage that covers different threat categories.
How to use it
Bullet Seed is single-target, so no ×0.75 spread reduction in doubles. Point it at Grass-weak targets for super-effective damage; 5 hits into a Water or Rock type adds up fast.
Against Pokémon running Sturdy or Focus Sash, Bullet Seed is the clean answer. One move breaks the survival protection and deals full damage, no second turn needed.
Toucannon is not a Speed-oriented attacker. In doubles, it typically moves after a partner sets up control or reduces the opposing speed advantage.
Tips & strategy
With Skill Link, each of the 5 hits has its own independent critical hit roll. If you have a Scope Lens or similar, the cumulative crit probability across all 5 hits is meaningfully higher than a single-hit move.
Bullet Seed against a Substitute: the first hit breaks the sub, and the remaining 4 hits land directly on the Pokémon behind it. A single-hit high-power move would just break the sub and stop. This makes Bullet Seed efficient against sub-stacking opponents.
Grass is resisted by Fire, Poison, Flying, Bug, and Steel. Don't aim Bullet Seed at those types.
