Base Ampharos has 0% usage in the high-ladder (1760) Singles bracket with only 140 raw count samples, making it effectively unfit for this format. The core problems: its 55 base Speed means it almost always moves last in a metagame driven by Speed tiers; its pure Electric typing gives it a built-in immunity to Ground moves but it cannot hit Ground-types at all; and without the Mega Stone, it cannot match Mega Ampharos's stat profile while also lacking the item freedom needed for base-form burst damage. The limited 3-of-6 selection in Singles leaves no room for a slow, support-dependent Pokémon to establish itself.

Base Ampharos reaches only 0.01% usage in Doubles at rank 241, equally unfit for this format. Mega Ampharos strictly outclasses it in every role it could occupy: Mold Breaker ignores abilities in ways that Static and Plus simply cannot replicate, and losing the Mega Stone for a Magnet (58.8%) or Leftovers (28.7%) does not compensate for the stat difference. The movesets showing Protect, Volt Switch, and Dazzling Gleam hint at a support/pivot role, but Mega Ampharos executes those same tasks with significantly better bulk and power. The tradeoff offers no meaningful gain.
