What it does
Supercell Slam is an Electric-type physical move with base power 100 and 95% accuracy. No secondary effect — just damage. The catch is the miss penalty: if it misses, the user takes damage equal to 50% of their max HP. Same mechanic as High Jump Kick missing. That 5% miss rate is not negligible when the cost is half your health bar.
Electric hits Water and Flying for super-effective damage, both common enough in the current doubles meta to make this coverage relevant. Ground-types are flat immune — Supercell Slam does nothing to them. Grass and Electric types take half.
Who runs it
Luxray runs Supercell Slam at 19%. Its Attack stat is high enough that base 100 Electric physical does real damage. There are a few ways Luxray shows up:
Intimidate builds use the entry debuff to soften opposing physical attackers and then click Supercell Slam from a position of reduced incoming threat. Safer, more team-oriented.
Guts builds intentionally inflict status (usually via Flame Orb or Toxic Orb) to trigger the Attack boost. Supercell Slam with Guts active hits notably harder than normal. The tradeoff is active HP drain — missing while already taking burn damage stacks dangerously.
Rivalry gives a power bump against same-gender opponents in specific matchups.
How to use it
This is Luxray's primary Electric STAB. Against Water or Flying targets it's the correct click — super-effective damage at base 100 Electric moves fast matchups.
Respect the miss penalty. 5% miss with 50% HP loss is not a 'it probably won't happen' risk — over a long tournament run, it will happen. Build your game plan so that one miss doesn't end Luxray's contribution entirely.
Ground-types shut this down completely. If the opposing lead is a Ground-type, don't click Supercell Slam. Pivot to another move or switch.
Tips & strategy
Guts with Flame Orb: Luxray at high Attack investment becomes a serious threat once the burn activates. The math gets uncomfortable though — miss while burned and you've lost 50% max HP from the miss plus ongoing burn chip. The damage output is high but the fragility increases proportionally.
Intimidate is the more stable choice. Entering and lowering opposing Attack buys team protection, and Supercell Slam provides clean Electric STAB without the Guts-related risks.
If your current matchup has low margins for error, consider whether Luxray is the right Electric attacker to commit to. 95% accuracy versus 100% makes a genuine difference across a full tournament bracket.
