Mega Staraptor sits at 9.21% usage and rank 19 in singles, functioning as a pure wallbreaker that does not rely on pre-mega bulk to accumulate damage, instead gaining its reshaped offensive profile the moment it mega-evolves. The combination of 100 Speed and 120 Attack lets it move first under standard tailwind or even unboosted conditions, and it remains one of the few Pokémon capable of firing two 120-power STAB moves in close combat and brave bird.
Playstyle:The dominant spread runs jolly with max speed and attack, concentrating EVs into offense to maximize the damage of a first-strike close combat or brave bird. Final gambit at 16.7% slots in third as a dedicated wallbreaker or mutual-KO option against bulky resists, while U-turn at 16.5% keeps momentum on pivots, letting it exit safely into favorable matchups. Roost at 8.4% is the minority pick for bulkier builds that need to take more hits. Blaze kick at 4.1% patches the steel and rock-type blind spot, and bulk up plus dual wingbeat together sit at just 2%, fringe options only.
Mega Staraptor reaches 16.49% usage and rank 12 in doubles, making it one of the more prominent offensive cores in the current format. Protect at 24.6% sits just behind close combat, reflecting how heavily doubles play leans on its own survivability. Tailwind at 12.6% and roost at 12.1% both break into the mainstream, a notable shift from singles.
Playstyle:Doubles builds default to jolly max speed, with attack EVs spread more thinly than in singles — the leading two spreads each invest a handful of points into physical and special defense, buying one extra turn of survival through protect cycles to land damage. Protect, close combat, brave bird and roost form the core loop: protect preserves HP, close combat or brave bird pressure the opposing pair, roost restores when needed, and tailwind boosts the whole team on key turns. U-turn does not appear in the top six, meaning pivoting matters less here than staying alive and firing STABs.
Staraptor holds a 1.15% usage rate at rank 75 in singles. With 120 base Attack and a Flying STAB, it cuts through most un-supported mid-speed teams, but the lack of bulk and recovery means each switch-in usually buys only one offensive turn. The window for landing Brave Bird or Close Combat has to be read correctly, or the exchange collapses.
Playstyle:Sharp Beak at 64% pushes Brave Bird past its base 120, while Choice Scarf at 36% leans on 100 base Speed to outpace most mid-tier attackers. Ability choice tracks the item: Sharp Beak holders gravitate to Reckless to amplify recoil moves, whereas Scarf sets prefer Intimidate to bank a free Attack drop before pivoting or slamming. The move pool is led by Brave Bird 25%, Close Combat 23.9%, and Final Gambit 22%; the latter lets Staraptor trade itself for a kill when its Speed line fails. The Adamant 32 Atk / 32 Def spread at 39.1% is the textbook physical breaker template, splitting investment between Close Combat payoff and physical bulk.
In doubles, Staraptor posts a 1.42% usage rate at rank 59. Choice Scarf at 98.1% reduces the set to a single-turn commitment: with U-turn and Tailwind both in the kit, Staraptor ties tempo to its own pivot, cutting in once a partner has secured control on the far side.
Playstyle:U-turn 23.8%, Brave Bird 24.5%, Close Combat 22.9%, and Final Gambit 17.5% form the core loop: U-turn cashes out on a read of switch or protect to hand a safe pivot, Brave Bird and Close Combat still land on resisted hits, and Final Gambit closes games when the Speed line fails. The near-monoculture of Choice Scarf reshapes the spread priorities: Jolly 32 Spe / 32 Atk at 30%, Jolly 32 Spe / 20 Spe / 14 Atk at 27.5%, and Adamant 32 Atk / 32 Spe at 29.4% all fight over the mid-to-high Speed bracket. Farigiraf at 11.5% and Blastoise-Mega at 10.7% top the partner list — Farigiraf opens Trick Room and Gravity plays, while Blastoise-Mega cycles typings with U-turn.
