Qwilfish has no Mega form and sits at a modest BST of 440, putting it at a structural disadvantage in Champions where Mega holders define the power level. Its Water/Poison typing offers excellent resistances and it can set Toxic Spikes or Spikes, but it is directly outclassed by its own evolution Overqwil in almost every role. Niche but not dead.
Playstyle:It functions as a hazard setter and pivot: lay Toxic Spikes or Spikes on the lead, use Intimidate to soften physical attackers, and threaten with Liquidation or Waterfall against Fire/Rock/Ground switch-ins. Pin Missile helps against Grass and Fairy types. With Speed 85 it can outpace slower setters. This is a chip-and-cycle role, not a sweeper.
In doubles, Qwilfish loses even more value: Toxic Spikes are easily cleared by opponent switching and switching is more frequent in 2v2. Its lack of Mega form is even more glaring in a format where both sides often field a Mega. Intimidate support and spread pressure from Liquidation can find a team slot under the right structure, but this is firmly niche.
Playstyle:In doubles, Qwilfish leads or pivots in to drop Intimidate on physical threats, then supports the partner with Liquidation spread damage or chip via Pin Missile. Toxic Spikes are less reliable due to frequent switching, but against switch-averse compositions they still accumulate pressure. Its role is as an early-game disruptive pivot rather than a damage dealer.
