What it does
Rindo Berry triggers automatically when the holder takes super-effective Grass-type damage, halving it, then is consumed. Only fires on super-effective Grass moves.
Grass is super-effective against Water, Rock, and Ground. For Water types specifically, it's a recurring structural problem — Grass coverage shows up on a lot of teams precisely to threaten Water cores. Energy Ball and Leaf Storm are the most-used Grass special moves in the meta, and a strong Grass special attacker can threaten most Water types significantly.
Who runs it
Rhyperior (6% of sets) has the most extreme case: Ground/Rock makes it 4× weak to Grass (both types take 2× from Grass). One Grass hit is typically a KO without the berry; with it, the 4× becomes 2× and Rhyperior might survive to act. Blastoise (5%) is a pure Water type whose support and offensive utility depends on surviving the turn a Grass move comes in. Politoed (2%) and Starmie (2%) are Water types with the same weakness. Vaporeon (1%) and Clawitzer (2%) round out the small-usage Water side.
The overall adoption rate is lower than many other resist berries — Grass isn't the highest-frequency attacking type in doubles. The berry shows up when you're specifically anticipating a Grass threat in the meta.
How to use it
Same read as every resist berry: figure out when the Grass move is landing, then decide whether to Protect through it or take it on the chin with the berry. Rhyperior is the dramatic case — 4× into 2× is a big compression. For Blastoise or Politoed, the goal is simpler: survive one Grass hit so you can do your thing — set rain, fire a Water move, use your ability effect, whatever your role is.
Tips & strategy
Grass types in the current meta often run Leaf Storm for burst damage alongside other coverage. Leaf Storm drops the user's Special Attack by two stages after firing — meaning if your Grass opponent commits Leaf Storm into your Rindo Berry, they took a Sp. Atk penalty and your berry absorbed the hit. Two things went wrong for them in one turn. That's a meaningful tempo swing if you can read it coming.
