What it does
Ice Spinner is an Ice physical move that removes all terrain effects on contact — Electric Terrain, Grassy Terrain, Misty Terrain, and Psychic Terrain are all cleared when the move hits.
The terrain removal is what sets this apart from other Ice physical options. One move handles damage and field control simultaneously, without needing a dedicated terrain-clearing slot.
What clearing each terrain actually means in doubles:
Clearing Psychic Terrain restores opponents' access to priority moves like Fake Out — but it also restores yours. The main application is stopping opponent Psychic Terrain from blocking your Fake Out and Sucker Punch. Clearing Grassy Terrain removes the Ground damage reduction, letting Earthquake and other Ground moves hit at full strength again. Clearing Misty Terrain means status moves can land, which matters a lot against Misty Terrain stall builds.
Single-target, contact move.
Who runs it
Avalugg at 58% is the core user. Ice STAB plus built-in terrain clearing is a practical combination in one slot. Avalugg's sky-high physical Defense means it can stay in long enough to get Ice Spinner off even under pressure.
Quaquaval at 36% uses it for Ice coverage alongside Water and Fighting STABs. When opponents have Grassy Terrain reducing Ground damage, Ice Spinner clearing it restores your Ground-type partners to full strength.
Weavile at 13% usually prefers Triple Axel for pure damage, but Ice Spinner is the choice when terrain control matters and you don't want to dedicate a separate slot for it.
How to use it
Click Ice Spinner immediately after terrain goes up, before the opponent gets full value from it. Against Psychic Terrain leads, clearing on turn two stops the priority-blocking effect before it shapes the whole game.
Be careful — terrain clearing hits both sides. If your own partner relies on the current terrain, Ice Spinner hurts your own setup. Confirm the terrain belongs to the opponent before clicking.
Tips & strategy
Against terrain-stacking builds — like Meowstic setting Psychic Terrain for Espathra to output under — Ice Spinner dismantles multiple components with one move. The value-per-slot is excellent there.
As a pure Ice coverage option without terrain relevance, the power output is adequate but not exceptional. The terrain bonus is why it earns the slot over other choices.
