What it does
Fairy Feather multiplies Fairy-type move damage by ×1.2 — unconditionally, every turn, no HP cost, no lock, no consumption. It was introduced in Generation 9 as the dedicated Fairy-type boost item. Moonblast, Dazzling Gleam, Play Rough, and Draining Kiss all benefit directly.
Fairy's offensive coverage is wider than most types: super-effective against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting — all consistently used in Champions. That means Fairy-STAB attackers find valid targets in almost every game, and Fairy Feather's ×1.2 is contributing on those matchups regularly.
Compared to Choice Specs: ×1.5 but locked. Fairy-type Pokémon like Hatterene typically carry Psychic and Shadow Ball alongside their Fairy STAB. Get locked into Moonblast and the opponent freely pivots to a Steel-type — immune to Fairy — for a free turn. Fairy Feather keeps everything available.
Compared to Life Orb: Orb is ×1.3 across all moves, but drains HP. Sylveon is often a long-game attacker that benefits from staying healthy; Life Orb conflicts with that role. Hatterene is fast-fragile in the other direction — it moves last in normal speed order and needs Trick Room to function, so HP preserved is HP that lets it keep attacking through the Trick Room window.
Who runs it
Sylveon (91% of its sets) — no other item is close. Sylveon's Pixilate turns Normal-type moves into Fairy-type moves with an additional ×1.2 boost. Fairy Feather stacks multiplicatively with that: Pixilate's ×1.2 × Fairy Feather's ×1.2 × STAB ×1.5 makes Hyper Voice one of the hardest-hitting spread moves in doubles at no HP cost. 91% adoption is a data point that means: just run Fairy Feather on Sylveon.
Hatterene (44%) has very high Special Attack and uses Moonblast, Psychic, and Shadow Ball. Fairy Feather lifts its Moonblast damage without touching the HP it needs to survive Trick Room turns. Slow, fragile, and reliant on Trick Room — Life Orb pushes it into KO range faster; Fairy Feather doesn't.
Primarina (9%) is Water/Fairy with Moonblast as its Fairy STAB. Fairy Feather strengthens its super-effective hits against Dragon, Dark, and Fighting targets.
Floette (12%), Gardevoir (4%), Mimikyu (4%), and Florges (4%) round out the user list. Gardevoir has both Fairy and Psychic STAB — Fairy Feather specifically boosts the Fairy side. Mimikyu uses Play Rough as its Fairy output, and Fairy Feather raises the KO threat on that move in offensive builds.
How to use it
Sylveon's doubles game plan: Pixilate converts Hyper Voice — a spread Normal move — into a spread Fairy move with a bonus ×1.2. Fairy Feather's ×1.2 stacks on top. The result is Hyper Voice hitting both opponents simultaneously at a massive effective multiplier, for zero HP cost per turn. Against a team with Dragon, Dark, or Fighting types on both sides, the spread pressure is severe. This is why Sylveon's item adoption is nearly unanimous.
Hatterene under Trick Room: It moves first in Trick Room due to its low base Speed, attacks with Fairy Feather-boosted Moonblast, and retains HP throughout the four to five Trick Room turns. Life Orb would carve into that HP, leaving it in priority check range once Trick Room expires. Fairy Feather doesn't.
Steel-types are immune to Fairy moves and Poison-types resist them. On those matchups, Fairy Feather contributes nothing — the move itself is resisted or immune. Have Shadow Ball, Psychic, or other coverage in the kit to handle Steel-types. Never click Fairy moves into Steel without a coverage backup.
Tips & strategy
The Pixilate + Fairy Feather stack is Sylveon's headline damage source. Pixilate gives ×1.2, Fairy Feather gives ×1.2 — they multiply independently, not additively. Combined with STAB ×1.5, Hyper Voice operates at a very high base multiplier before even accounting for super-effective matchups. In doubles, the spread means both targets take that damage simultaneously. At a 91% item adoption rate, the data confirms: Fairy Feather is the build.
Steel is the hardest counter. Scizor, Aegislash, and Empoleon are all completely immune to Fairy moves. Against them, Fairy Feather helps zero — your Fairy moves deal no damage at all. Identify the Steel-types in the opponent's team at Team Preview and make sure your attacker has a move for that matchup, or a partner who handles it.
Fairy Feather requires no active management. It fires automatically on every Fairy move. For Pokémon that click Fairy STAB most of the time — especially Sylveon — it's the lowest-friction item available.
