What it does
Skill Link locks multi-hit moves at their maximum hit count. Normally 2-5 hit moves distribute randomly (35% two hits, 35% three, 15% four, 15% five), averaging about 3.1 hits. Skill Link replaces all of that with a guaranteed 5 hits every time. Relevant moves include Bullet Seed (Grass, 25 BP × 5 = 125 effective), Rock Blast (Rock), and Tail Slap (Normal), among others.
Who runs it
Toucannon is the primary carrier at 89% usage. The main payoff here is Bullet Seed: five guaranteed hits of Grass-type damage, totaling 125 base power. That exceeds most standard high-power single-hit moves. It gives Toucannon a meaningful Grass-type attack vector that handles Water and Rock type matchups. One important clarification: Beak Blast is Toucannon's signature move, but it is a single-hit charging move, not a multi-hit move. Skill Link does not apply to Beak Blast. Beak Blast's notable mechanic — inflicting Burn on any Pokémon that makes contact with Toucannon during the charging turn — has nothing to do with Skill Link.
How to use it
The primary output is Bullet Seed at five hits. Against Water or Rock types, the Grass-type super-effective hit multiplied across five strikes deals heavy damage. Multi-hit moves also break Focus Sash: the first hit drops the target to 1 HP, and subsequent hits finish the job. This makes Toucannon a reliable counter to any Focus Sash user in the matchup. Rock Blast is available as a Rock-type alternative against Flying types where Bullet Seed is resisted at 0.5×.
Tips & strategy
Pair Toucannon with Choice Band to push Bullet Seed's physical damage higher — five hits of Choice Band Grass-type damage against a Water/Rock type adds up fast. Since Bullet Seed has 100% accuracy, there's no hit-rate concern with multiple checks. Watch for Grass-resistant targets: Flying types resist Grass at 0.5×, Steel types also resist Grass. Bullet Seed is single-target, so in doubles it doesn't clip your own teammate.
