What it does
Silver Powder multiplies Bug-type move damage by ×1.2, every turn, with no HP cost, no lock, and no item consumption. X-Scissor, Bug Buzz, Megahorn, and Signal Beam all benefit directly.
Bug hits Psychic, Dark, and Grass types super-effectively — three types with consistent Champions presence. That gives Bug-STAB attackers real targets to work with. The downside is that Fire, Flying, and Rock all resist Bug, and those types are common too. Move lock from Choice Specs is risky in that environment: get locked into Bug Buzz when the opponent pivots to Talonflame or Incineroar, and you're stuck. Silver Powder keeps every other move available.
Compared to Life Orb: Orb is ×1.3 across all moves but drains HP each attack. Heracross with Guts is an interesting case: when it has a status condition, Guts ×1.5 already boosts all attacks — Life Orb ×1.3 stacks on top, but so does the recoil. Silver Powder ×1.2 on Bug moves costs nothing. Ariados is slow and benefits more from surviving longer than from the 0.1× multiplier difference.
Who runs it
Silver Powder has two notable users in Champions data:
Ariados (5% of its sets) is Poison/Bug typed with X-Scissor and Signal Beam as Bug-STAB options. It's slow, so each HP point is precious — Silver Powder raises Bug damage without the drain that would bring it into KO range faster.
Heracross (4%) is Bug/Fighting with Megahorn as its primary Bug STAB (base 120 power). Guts raises Attack by 1.5× when Heracross has a status condition. With Guts active, a status-boosted Megahorn with Silver Powder hits at STAB ×1.5 × Guts ×1.5 × SE ×2 × Silver Powder ×1.2 = ×5.4 effective against Psychic targets — enormous. Without Guts active, Silver Powder still gives a clean ×1.2 on every Megahorn at zero cost.
How to use it
Silver Powder's plan: Bug STAB targets Psychic, Dark, and Grass types; everything else gets a coverage move. At Team Preview, identify Psychic and Dark-type targets — those are your primary Bug-STAB matchups.
With Heracross: Megahorn at base 120 power against a Psychic-type is already a massive number. Silver Powder pushes the floor damage higher, increasing the chance of a clean KO. Heracross also carries Fighting STAB coverage, so it can freely switch between Megahorn and Close Combat based on what the opponent brings — no lock required.
Bug is a niche offensive type in Champions. Silver Powder's value here is pragmatic: not making Bug into a dominant type, but ensuring that when your Bug STAB fires into the right matchup, it actually finishes the target.
Tips & strategy
Silver Powder is one of the lower-adoption items in Champions data. That reflects Bug's position in the meta — it exists primarily as coverage, not as a dominant STAB type. Pokémon running Silver Powder are using Bug to threaten specific matchups, not to sweep the whole opponent's team.
Fire-type counters are the main risk. Fire is super-effective against Bug, and Fire-types are frequently present (Incineroar, Arcanine, Torkoal). Against those, Bug moves are resisted — pivot to coverage or swap out.
One specific situational edge: Bug moves bypass Wonder Room-like effects and deal full damage into certain defensive setups. In Trick Room games where Psychic-type attackers are prominent, a Silver Powder-boosted X-Scissor or Bug Buzz can specifically target those Psychic-type Trick Room setters with the full super-effective boost.
