What it does
Aroma Veil makes the holder and its active partner immune to moves that target willpower or emotions: Taunt, Encore, Disable, Torment, and Heal Block. These moves simply fail against any Pokémon on your side of the field while the ability is active — no PP spent on their end, no secondary effect, just a blocked targeting step.
Unlike single-target protection abilities, this one covers both your Pokémon on the field at once. That partner about to use Trick Room? The opponent's Taunt won't reach it.
The most impactful application is protecting Trick Room setters. In doubles, a pre-emptive Taunt before the field flips is the standard counter to slow teams. Aroma Veil removes that option entirely. Heal Block is also worth naming — it cuts off Drain Punch and Giga Drain recovery, which some team compositions rely on. Aroma Veil blocks that too.
Who runs it
Aromatisse is the primary carrier, running Aroma Veil as its ability at roughly 94% usage. It typically runs a support set: Trick Room, Helping Hand, Moonblast, sometimes Protect or Aromatherapy. Its low base Speed (29) fits perfectly in Trick Room structures, and the Taunt immunity is exactly what lets it set the field without being disrupted.
Alcremie also runs Aroma Veil at around 71% usage. Its sets lean support as well — Decorate boosts, Helping Hand assists. Depending on the team, it sometimes runs Sweet Veil instead if sleep immunity matters more to the composition than Taunt protection.
How to use it
The basic play: pair Aromatisse with your Trick Room anchor and lead them together. If your opponent's plan relies on Taunt to prevent the field flip, that plan just stopped working.
Remember what it doesn't cover: Aroma Veil won't stop Fake Out, stat drops from moves or abilities, or spread attacks. You still need to manage flinch turns — Protect on Aromatisse handles that cleanly.
The protection extends to any Pokémon you switch in while Aromatisse is on the field, so a support Pokémon swapping in mid-game also gets the coverage without needing its own immunity. That matters for slow, back-end support teams where multiple Pokémon need to act freely.
Tips & strategy
Aroma Veil's core value is predictability. Without it, your support plan depends on whether the opponent drew Taunt at the right time. With it, you can assume your first move lands and build from there.
A clean pairing: Aromatisse next to a fast sweeper that'd otherwise collapse to Taunt pressure. The sweeper hits, Aromatisse supports with Helping Hand or sets Trick Room, and the team functions as a unit because the silence button is gone.
One thing that doesn't work against it: Mold Breaker and its variants bypass abilities that block the move's effect, but Aroma Veil works at the targeting layer — the move fails before it hits, not because of a defensive ability check. So Mold Breaker Pokémon still can't Taunt through it. Your opponent needs a different answer.
