What it does
Analytic gives a 30% power boost to whatever move you use, as long as every target you're attacking has already moved this turn. Move last, hit harder. That's it.
30% isn't huge on paper, but on Starmie with base 100 Special Attack, it's like running a permanent boosted Mystic Water with no item slot cost. The condition is just the speed ordering — nothing to set up, no PP cost, no activation move.
In doubles, the trigger checks only whether your targets have already moved. Your own partner's action doesn't matter. You just need to be behind the targets you're hitting.
Who runs it
Starmie is the only Champions carrier, at 19%. Its alternative is Natural Cure, which auto-heals status on switch-out — safer and more flexible in most situations.
Analytic Starmie takes the opposite approach: deliberately sacrifice the speed advantage to gain a permanent damage bonus. Base 115 Speed is high enough that you won't naturally move last in most matchups, which is why Trick Room is the key. Under Trick Room, faster Pokémon move later — 115 Speed turns Starmie into a consistent last-mover, which means every Hydro Pump or Thunderbolt gets the 30% automatically.
How to use it
The standard way to run Analytic Starmie is alongside a Trick Room setter. You set the room, Starmie becomes the slowest fast thing on the field, and every attack goes out with the bonus. No extra item, no extra turn — just maintain Trick Room and keep firing.
Without Trick Room: you can drop Speed investment or use a Speed-lowering nature (Quiet, Sassy, Relaxed, Brave) to push Starmie below most of the Speed tier. The risk is that you lose the ability to outspeed threats when Trick Room isn't up, which makes the set much less consistent outside its intended matchup.
In doubles, you can also lean on your partner moving first — even if Starmie is faster than the opponents, if you sequence the partner's action before Starmie's in the same turn, Analytic triggers on whatever the partner already hit.
Tips & strategy
Analytic only fires if your targets moved before you. If you're somehow faster than your opponent in a given turn, you get nothing. This is why Trick Room is the reliable enabler — it guarantees the ordering instead of hoping for a favorable speed matchup.
Natural Cure comparison: if your team has Trick Room support, Analytic gives consistent damage that Natural Cure can't match. Without that support, Natural Cure is almost always better — you keep the Speed flexibility and get status protection on top. The 19% adoption rate means Analytic Starmie is a real option, not a meme, but it needs the right team around it.
Analytic also works on spread move attacks in doubles — if both targets have already moved, both hit directions get the 30%. A last-turn Analytic Surf or Blizzard hits noticeably harder across the board.
