The author hit Champions rank 227/253 with a team built entirely around Vivillon. Vivillon runs a speed-oriented spread, sits in the back, and looks for slow Pokémon to set up on—usually two Quiver Dances behind a Substitute to dodge Scarf revenge kills and Lum Berry plays, often sweeping three for the comeback win. He deliberately avoided dedicated Vivillon support, because losing Vivillon to a setup partner would auto-lose; every member must function solo. SD Archaludon lays Stealth Rock, chips with Draco Meteor, then sweeps—it answers the Scarf Meowscarada + Hippowdon cores and Kangaskhan/Aegislash that trouble Vivillon. Espathra leads with Lumina Crash to chip, exploiting opponents who panic over the Mega Greninja/Mega Lopunny mind game. Greninja switched to Gale Wings—wait, Gust Return + Sludge Wave to surprise-kill Mega Lopunny that ate his shuriken+Mach Punch combo. Mimikyu is the closer/anti-meta pick and bluffs Vivillon as the Mega slot, baiting free Swords Dances. The team's weakness is Scarf Garchomp, which he plays around with title-screen mind games.Build article →

The author started from a painful experience: while using Choice Scarf Basculegion, Clefable set up freely on it, which made him realize how broad Clefable's setup targets are. So he built a straightforward baton pass team. Natural Cure—er, Unaware Clefable uses Cosmic Power then passes, with Magic Bounce post-Mega blocking status. The main receiver is Competitive Corviknight (Bulk Up/Body Press style with Lash Out) that grows stronger when hit; the second receiver is Unaware Skeledirge, brought against Charizard and Lucario, using Substitute to dodge crits and Dragon Tail. Serperior leads with dual screens plus Glare so Clefable can set up safely, and can sweep with Contrary Leaf Storm if opponents misplay. Blastoise and Kingambit are backup picks for matchups Clefable can't exploit, like Espathra. Strengths: clear win condition, low piloting demand, beginner-friendly. Weaknesses: bulk depends on Cosmic Power stacks, so phazing, Curse or Perish Song plus heavy hitters break it, and Mega Gengar, Glimmora, Espathra and lucky crits are very rough.Build article →

Build article →
Build article →
The team started from the author's frustration: his previous even-HP Lopunny got steamrolled by Archaludon's Protect-then-evasion line, so he wanted a Mega that genuinely beats Archaludon. Mega Blastoise fit, since just a chip of damage lets Aura Sphere finish off bulky Archaludon. He built around it with Stealth Rock Archaludon as a lead, bulky Leftovers-less Sneasler with Sitrus to wall the things Blastoise hates (Meowscarada, Primarina, Lopunny, Kingambit and other priority users), and Scarf Basculegion as a late-game sweeper. Realizing Blastoise often couldn't break through prepared opponents, he added Vivillon as the real win condition, switched Archaludon to Sash + Rock Tomb to enable Vivillon's setup, and slotted Whimsicott with Moonblast/Memento to handle Garchomp leads and give Shell Smash Blastoise a free turn. He rates the Archaludon+Blastoise+Vivillon double-setup line very highly, but flags lead Garchomp, Meowscarada/Lopunny paired with Hippowdon, opposing Lum Berry users, and Unaware Clefable as his worst matchups.Build article →
Build article →
This team is a refinement of the author's previous season squad. The original concept was Sitrus + Swords Dance + Substitute Sneasler using Umbreon as setup fodder, supported by WoW/Magical Fire/Encore Delphox to soften threats and Stealth Rock + Dragon Tail Archaludon for chip, letting Sneasler sweep at the end. Problems arose vs standard balance (Hippowdon/Dragonite/Aegislash), so Choice Scarf Garchomp was added as the real sweeper, forming a Delphox/Archaludon/Garchomp core selection. To handle Mega Lopunny, the author leads Delphox, switches to Garchomp on Fake Out, and went Adamant Garchomp to OHKO Lopunny and Basculegion. Delphox shifted from max Speed to bulk so it survives priority and keeps Encore pressure alive. Primarina runs Mystic Water mainly to OHKO Hippowdon, and Mega Venusaur was added as a "face" pick to deter lead Primarina and bait Corviknight. The author rates the team's strength as never falling behind on numbers since every member contributes even at low HP; weaknesses are Mega Lopunny leads and Delphox's shaky Will-O-Wisp accuracy.Build article →
The author felt this meta demanded an answer to Basculegion's Poltergeist sweeps. Scarf Meowscarada and Hydreigon get punished by switch-ins once locked, so he chose Kingambit instead: Sucker Punch traps Basculegion, and SD+Sucker turns bad matchups around. Garchomp with Focus Sash sets Stealth Rock to push Kingambit's KO range and packs Dragon Tail to phaze Hippowdon switch-ins and scout the back. Jolly Mega Charizard X rounds out the core, specifically built to beat Scarf Garchomp—after one Dragon Dance it outspeeds another Scarf Chomp and even max-speed Scarf Hydreigon. These three form the standard lead. The last three slots are bait: Floette lures steels for Charizard, Basculegion lures Scarf Meowscarada to set up Kingambit, and Corviknight makes opponents misread Charizard as Y. The author admits the team has many bad matchups and bled rating often, so the build still needs refining.Build article →
Build article →

The author didn't build around a game plan — he just listed Pokemon that answer the format's many threats and landed on these six, a team meant to shut down the opponent's win condition rather than force its own. Four of the six look like possible Megas, which baits misreads. The centerpiece is a defensive HD Excadrill that hard-counters the format's best mon, Archaludon: it resists Archaludon's main moves, sets Stealth Rock for tempo, and occasionally steals games with Horn Drill. Mega Gyarados tanks hits with Intimidate plus its typing shift and removes a threat with wide coverage, Choice Scarf Hydreigon outspeeds Basculegion, Gengar and Greninja, and Skarmory lays Spikes to handle Lopunny and Meowscarada. The author is proudest of the homebrew HD Excadrill answer to Archaludon; the downsides are being walled by Skarmory and Hippowdon and the occasional accuracy whiff.Build article →

Built around continuing Mega Floette from last season, since Archaludon's rise meant fewer teams packed dedicated Floette counters. The author swapped Mega Charizard Y for Mega Gyarados as the second Mega, valuing its matchup against Aegislash (Floette's worst enemy) and its ability to set up Dragon Dance mid-cycle. Sash Stealth Rock Garchomp was considered for the lead, but bulky Sitrus Archaludon won out: it sets rocks, phazes with Dragon Tail, and rarely dies turn one, feeding setup chances for Gyarados. Aegislash (Spell Tag, SD) handles Corviknight and Mega Lucario as a second sweeper; Scarf Garchomp cleans up Lopunny and Volcarona; Corrosion Glimmora breaks Mega Venusaur/Umbreon/Skeledirge stall. Weak points: Hippowdon+Aegislash cores, Mega Lopunny, Sash Garchomp leads, and Moody users like Scovillain and Glalie.Build article →
The author's whole-season goal was to reach Champion rank using all three Sinnoh starters at once, so the team grew out of a Sinnoh mono build. Sash Infernape leads to set up with Stealth Rock, Will-O-Wisp and Encore, opening the door for Torterra and Mega Lopunny; Torterra eats two Choice Scarf Garchomp Outrages, boosts back up and reverse-sweeps, with Giga Drain keeping it healthy. Empoleon is the second setup pivot, chipping with Yawn plus Stealth Rock and using Competitive to wall Starmie, Delphox and Espathra. The early build leaned too hard on Lopunny, so wins came down to move accuracy and fast boosted Megas were a pain; the fix was a second Mega ace, Baton Pass Espathra and Cosmic Power Mega Clefable, which check fast threats like Mega Lopunny and balance the physical/special spread.Build article →
The team is named after its double Toxic Spikes, built by mashing a Wish Mega Delphox squad and a Mega Victreebel squad together. Mega Delphox runs Wish, Magical Flame, Psychic and Protect as a do-everything pivot that is mildly good and mildly bad into everything, while Sash Meowscarada is the first spiker, its Overgrow Trick Flower hitting absurdly hard. Archaludon with Leftovers, Substitute and Protect is the author's pick for strongest mon, Hippowdon is the dedicated Gengar answer, and Kingambit plus Mega Victreebel close games, with Victreebel binding and Strength-Sapping leads down and being a stable answer to Mega Lopunny. The two Megas can't be brought together. The author admits the team plays too passively and drew nearly every matchup, and never found a stable opening line against lead Garchomp or Archaludon.Build article →
Last season the author kept losing to Gengar and Charizard, so he started from defensive answers to both — Hippowdon, whose Earthquake OHKOs most Gengar, and HD Toxapex for Charizard Y — and built a Dragonite-based defensive cycle around them, switching between a normal cycle and a hard-stall plan by matchup. Mega Dragonite is the de facto ace: a Substitute set to break Hippowdon, with Fire/Dragon coverage and bulk that lets it trade with almost everything outside Fairy, and Timid to win the Dragonite speed mirror. Hippowdon is the main physical wall and Stealth Rock setter, Aegislash uses Sacred Sword on Archaludon and Fairies, and Choice Scarf Meowscarada covers Gyarados and Basculegion while spreading Toxic Spikes. The strength is the variety of support-move win conditions and having real answers to Archaludon. The weakness is feeble damage that drags games to time, leaning on poison Build article →
