This team carries over from last season: Mega Lopunny backed by Choice Scarf Garchomp and Basculegion, built on winning through skill rather than gimmicks. Last season all three leaned physical, so bulky walls like Corviknight or a defense-boosted Metagross were hard to break, and with only Volcarona's Quiver Dance as a setup move, stall cores like Umbreon and Toxapex were tough to crack. This time the author switched to a female Basculegion, whose Life Orb water move pressures Corviknight and Hippowdon directly, and gave Volcarona an offensive spread instead. Garchomp swapped its fire move for a poison one to beat Mega Meganium and Whimsicott, while a bulkier Mega Lopunny now tanks Garchomp's dragon move reliably in a straight fight. The author calls Mimikyu the team's worst matchup, since five of six members are weak to it, and says rain teams built around Swampert and Archaludon are nBuild article →

This whole team was borrowed wholesale from another player, so the author skips build reasoning and just shares impressions from reaching Champion rank for the first time — it became a rain team after a random scout pull turned out far stronger and faster than expected. Garchomp, Meowscarada, and Metagross get picked together about 80% of the time; against Aegislash or Gholdengo, which trouble Metagross, the author leans on that pair instead, with Garchomp also Taunting Archaludon, its own worst matchup, to set Metagross up. Mega Gengar, Sylveon, and especially Mega Floette (which both preferred leads are weak to) were rough, often needing Garchomp to chip damage before the back line could close it out. The author credits the result mostly to the borrowed team and is aiming for a top-99 finish next season.Build article →
