What it does
Tangled Feet raises the holder's evasion by one stage (roughly ×1.5 effective hit rate reduction) when it's confused. Outside of confusion, this ability does nothing.
How confusion happens: the opponent uses Confuse Ray, Swagger, Flatter, or a move with a confusion side effect like Hurricane. Confused Pokémon have a 33% chance of hitting themselves each turn (not 50%), and confusion clears randomly after two to five turns. Tangled Feet affects only the opponent's ability to hit you, not the self-hit probability.
The numbers: at +1 evasion, a move with 100% base accuracy lands about 75% of the time. A 95% move lands around 71%. Not game-breaking, but in a turn where missing matters, it's something.
Who runs it
A minority of Mr. Rime builds use Tangled Feet (11% usage), typically when targeting specific metas where confusion sources are more common. Most of the time it takes Screen Cleaner (49%) instead.
The core problem with this ability is that it's completely passive. You cannot choose to enter confusion — only the opponent can cause it. So the entire value of Tangled Feet depends on whether your opponent's team even has a confusion source. If they don't, it's dead weight.
How to use it
There's no active play with Tangled Feet — it just reduces the chance of getting hit when you're already confused. The closest thing to a proactive setup would be building around Swagger: apply confusion to targets deliberately, and have a Tangled Feet user tank through confusion turns with better evasion. But this is a fragile plan that requires the opponent to have the right targets.
Swagger sent at the opponent raises their Attack by two stages while confusing them. That's useful in a Foul Play setup, but that interaction is separate from what Tangled Feet does.
Tips & strategy
Tangled Feet is genuinely fringe in competitive play. Choosing it over Screen Cleaner on Mr. Rime means betting that the meta has confusion sources worth dodging and that screen setters aren't a concern. Most players won't make that trade unless the tournament field is specifically light on screen teams.
Don't pair Tangled Feet with Lum Berry — the berry would cure confusion immediately, removing the only condition that activates the ability.
Any strategy that stacks confusion-dependent evasion on top of the natural 33% self-hit RNG is piling variance on variance. It can flip a game in BO1 but it's not a reliable win condition.
