What it does
Strong Jaw raises the power of all biting moves by 1.5x. The affected moves are Bite, Crunch, Fire Fang, Ice Fang, Thunder Fang, Poison Fang, Hyper Fang, Psychic Fangs, Jaw Lock, and Fishious Rend.
Two moves that are NOT boosted: Dragon Claw (claws, not teeth) and Head Smash (head, not bite). Both appear on Tyrantrum sets regularly but get nothing from Strong Jaw.
Crunch is the centerpiece. Effective 120 power, Dark type, 20% Special Defense drop chance. A Pokémon with 121 base Attack running a 120-power Dark move with no setup cost hits hard enough that you do not need anything else to make it work. The 20% SpDef drop is a bonus — sometimes it flips a damage threshold.
The elemental Fang moves each land at 97.5 effective power under Strong Jaw. That is meaningful coverage: Ice Fang for Dragon and Grass types, Fire Fang for Steel and Grass and Ice, Thunder Fang for Water and Flying. With Crunch already in the kit, you are picking one or two Fangs that address whatever your team is weak to.
Who runs it
Tyrantrum is the only carrier in Champions at 33% — the other 67% run Rock Head for no-recoil Head Smash access. The two abilities represent different strategies: Rock Head is the all-in raw Rock damage route, Strong Jaw is the type coverage route. Which one fits depends on what gaps your team already has covered.
How to use it
Build around the biting move kit. Crunch is the main move — 120 effective power Dark coverage works against almost anything that does not resist Dark. Fill the remaining slots from the Fang options based on what the meta needs: Ice Fang if Dragon types are common, Fire Fang for Steel coverage, Thunder Fang for Water and Flying.
Dragon Claw and Head Smash can still fill utility slots despite receiving no boost, covering targets outside the biting kit's range.
Tyrantrum sits at 71 Speed, which puts it in a difficult spot against most fast offensive threats. Trick Room support helps substantially — or a team composition built around removing those faster threats before Tyrantrum needs to act.
Tips & strategy
Strong Jaw vs Rock Head is a genuine choice about damage profile. Rock Head gives you Head Smash, one of the highest raw power Rock moves with no recoil penalty. Strong Jaw gives you a broader type spread from the Fang options but lower peak single-hit Rock damage. If your team already handles Rock coverage, Strong Jaw fills a different hole.
Psychic Fangs at effective 127.5 power is the move that also destroys Reflect and Light Screen on hit. If the opponent is running a screen setter, Psychic Fangs lets you deal damage and remove the screens in one action — that is a specific but real application.
Rock/Dragon typing means Tyrantrum is weak to Ice, Fighting, Dragon, Ground, Steel, Water, and Grass — the defensive profile is fragile. Its value is in getting one or two hits off cleanly, not in tanking through a fight. Position it where it can do that.
