Receiver triggers when an ally Pokémon faints: Passimian copies that ally's ability and immediately activates it as if it just came onto the field. The immediate activation matters in practice. If Passimian copies Intimidate, the Intimidate triggers right away — the opponent's Attack drops even in the same turn the ally fainted. The copied ability functions exactly like the original and persists until Passimian is switched out or fainted.

Passimian is the carrier at 16% usage — a niche pick. Fighting type, 125 base Attack, straightforward physical attacker. Receiver only pays off with a specific inheritance target in mind. The most common setup is pairing with Incineroar: when Incineroar faints, Passimian copies Intimidate and triggers a second Intimidate drop on the field. Other valuable copy targets include high-impact abilities from allies that might fall during a match.
How to use it
The entire value of Receiver is in the planned inheritance. At team-building time, identify the specific ability you want Passimian to copy. Intimidate is the most common target because it has immediate field impact — a second Intimidate proc in the same match can compound Attack drops across both opponents. With Incineroar + Passimian, you're designing a team where Incineroar absorbs pressure on the front row, eventually faints, and then Passimian enters or was already present to inherit the Intimidate and keep the Attack pressure going.
Tips & strategy
Receiver is highly matchup-dependent. If the Pokémon you planned to copy dies at the wrong time, or if the inherited ability turns out to be less useful in that specific game, Passimian is just a Fighting-type attacker with no ability value. The 16% usage rate reflects this inconsistency. Builds around Receiver work best when the inheritance target is a widely useful ability (Intimidate being the clearest example) rather than a niche one. Timing the ally's faint is also a consideration — Passimian needs to already be on the field or ready to come in when the inheritance triggers to get the immediate activation benefit.
