What it does
Pure Power multiplies the holder's Attack stat by 2. No activation condition, no setup required — it's always on.
The numbers make the impact concrete. Medicham has base 60 Attack — mediocre on its own. At Lv50 with max IVs, neutral nature, and no Attack EVs, that's 80 Attack. With Pure Power, that becomes 160 — higher than the base Attack of most dedicated physical attackers. Stack an Adamant nature and 252 Attack EVs and Medicham's effective Attack clears 230 before any moves or items. That's purely from the ability.
Mega Evolution Medicham keeps Pure Power and raises base Attack to 100, pushing the effective value even higher. It's one of the few Mega Evolutions where the ability stays identical and continues to be the primary source of power.
Who runs it
Medicham carries Pure Power in 99% of Champions sets. There's no real choice involved — strip this ability away and you have a mid-Speed, average-bulk Pokémon with 60 base Attack. It has no reason to exist in the format without it.
How to use it
High Jump Kick is the flagship move: 130 base power, Fighting type, and it combines with the doubled Attack to threaten OHKOs on anything that doesn't resist it. Missing costs you half your HP, so you want some accuracy insurance — Wide Lens helps, or you lead with a Fake Out partner to lock the opponent in place.
Psycho Cut and Zen Headbutt round out Psychic coverage. In doubles, a Fake Out partner lets Medicham attack freely on turn one without risk.
Tips & strategy
Speed 80 is Medicham's biggest liability. A lot of the format's common threats outspeed it and threaten KOs before it can act. Two reliable workarounds: run it under Trick Room, where its lower Speed becomes an asset, or pair it with priority and Fake Out support to buy it a free turn.
Once Medicham gets a turn to attack, almost anything that isn't Fighting- or Psychic-resistant is in trouble. The only question is getting it there safely.
