What it does
Hustle multiplies the holder's physical attack by 1.5 and reduces the accuracy of physical moves to 80% of their base value. Special moves are completely unaffected — full power, full accuracy.
That 80% accuracy means roughly one miss every five physical move attempts. In a format where every turn counts, missing once can flip a game. So Hustle users don't just stack physical moves blindly — you look for moves that either ignore the accuracy penalty or hit hard enough that the math still works out over a match.
Grav Apple has 100% base accuracy which drops to 80% under Hustle, but its high base power and Defense-drop side effect still make it Flapple's best move despite the miss risk.
Who runs it
Flapple is the primary Hustle user in Champions right now (96% usage). Grass/Dragon typing gives it a unique defensive profile, but the real selling point is Grav Apple: high base power in the Grass type, boosted to 1.5× by Hustle, plus a side effect that drops the target's Defense by one stage — meaning your teammates hit even harder on the same turn. Choice Band stacks on top of that to push the damage into KO range against targets that would otherwise survive.
How to use it
The game plan with Hustle is simple: make the 1.5× multiplier large enough that missing occasionally still leaves you ahead. You're trading perfect reliability for burst damage.
On Flapple: lead with Grav Apple against anything it hits cleanly. When Grass coverage doesn't land — Dragon, Fairy, or Fire resists — you can switch to special moves like Draco Meteor, which aren't affected by Hustle's accuracy cut at all. Dragon Rush is a physical option but its native 75% accuracy drops to 60% under Hustle, so you're calling one miss every two attempts on average. Use it only when you need Dragon coverage and nothing else will do.
In doubles, be aware that a missed physical move wastes a full slot. If the opponent has a redirector like Follow Me or Rage Powder, the effective miss rate on physical moves goes even higher.
Tips & strategy
Hustle + Choice Scarf is rarely worth it — you're giving up damage for speed, and speed wasn't the problem Hustle was solving. Choice Band or Life Orb almost always gives a better return.
When playing against a Hustle user, Protect can waste their high-power turns, and leaning into special bulk means their 1.5× physical attack contributes nothing against you.
