What it does
Flower Veil blocks stat drops (from Intimidate, Charm, etc.) and status conditions (burn, paralysis, sleep, poison, freeze) for any Grass-type Pokémon on your side of the field.
The important catch: the holder is only protected if the holder itself is a Grass type. Floette and Florges are Fairy types — so they carry Flower Veil to protect their Grass-type partner, not themselves.
Who runs it
Floette (99%) and Florges (94%) almost always run Flower Veil. Both are Fairy types with very high Special Defense — Florges hits 154 base SpD. They're defensive support Pokémon, and Flower Veil is the ability choice for teams built around a Grass-type attacker.
Without a Grass-type partner on the field at the same time, Flower Veil does nothing. You need both pieces in play.
How to use it
Pair Florges with a Grass-type attacker in doubles. When Incineroar comes in with Intimidate, your Grass-type partner's Attack doesn't drop. When someone fires Spore, your Grass-type is immune.
What Flower Veil blocks:
- Attack drops from Intimidate → absorbed for the Grass-type ally
- Sleep Powder, Spore, Thunder Wave, Will-O-Wisp → Grass-type ally is completely immune
- Charm, Growl → stat drops negated for the Grass-type ally
Tips & strategy
The biggest practical value is Intimidate immunity for a physical Grass-type attacker. Intimidate stacking is one of the most common win conditions in doubles, and Flower Veil hard-counters it for your Grass-type every single time.
Status immunity through Flower Veil is genuinely rare — most abilities that block status only cover one type of status, or only protect the holder. Flower Veil covers everything, for a partner.
This ability requires deliberate team construction. You need Florges or Floette sharing the field with a Grass-type at the right moment. Most teams find broader solutions, but for Grass-type-centered cores, Flower Veil solves a lot of problems at once.
