What it does
Fiery Dance is an 80 BP Fire-type special move with 100% accuracy. On a successful hit, it has about a 50% chance to raise your own Sp. Atk by one stage. That proc rate is unusually high — most secondary effects sit at 10–30%, so Fiery Dance is closer to a coin flip every time.
The comparison people always make is against Fire Blast: 110 BP, 85% accuracy, no self-boost. Fiery Dance trades raw power and some reliability for a consistent upgrade path. If you need to guarantee a one-shot, Fire Blast is the call. If you want Volcarona to get stronger as the game goes on, Fiery Dance does that without any separate setup move.
In doubles, it targets one opponent — no spread damage reduction applies.
Who runs it
Volcarona at 19% usage. That is lower than its Quiver Dance rate, which means Fiery Dance is one of several Fire-type options Volcarona can slot in, not the default. Some sets run Fire Blast for the raw power, others run Heat Wave for spread damage in doubles. Fiery Dance is the choice when you want the snowball game plan without relying solely on Quiver Dance for Sp. Atk gains.
How to use it
The standard line is Quiver Dance into Fiery Dance. After Quiver Dance puts Sp. Atk, Sp. Def, and Speed to +1, each Fiery Dance hit can push Sp. Atk to +2 or +3. At that point, almost nothing takes a Fire-type hit comfortably.
That setup window usually needs a partner. Something with Fake Out buys Volcarona the free turn to get the Quiver Dance off. After that, Fiery Dance does the rest.
The proc only fires on a clean hit — using it into Protect or missing does not trigger the boost.
Tips & strategy
A 50% rate means variance is real. Some games you hit the boost twice in a row and Volcarona becomes unkillable. Other games you fire five times and get one proc. Do not build a game plan that requires the boost to happen on a specific turn — build it so the boost is a bonus when it fires, not a requirement.
The standard two-move coverage on Volcarona is Fiery Dance plus Bug Buzz: Fire covers most of the field, Bug covers Psychic and Dark types. After one Quiver Dance, both moves hit hard enough that coverage alone is usually sufficient without needing the Fiery Dance proc to win.
Watch for Flash Fire on the opposing side. Any Pokémon with Flash Fire is immune to Fiery Dance and will absorb it to boost its own Fire-type moves — do not click this move into one.
